10,900 Pairs of Donated Eyeglasses

March 2024 Update

Viroqua Lion Mike has delivered over 10,900 pairs of used eyeglasses over the last 27 months. Also, 3,984 inkjet cartridges, 316 hearing aids, 882 cell phones, and 3,087 eye glass cases. Michael Stephen, Viroqua Lions Club member, has renewed and strengthened a vision for a long established program of the Lions Club, working with the Wisconsin Lions Eye Bank and Vision issues.  Since 2021, Michel has build and placed collection boxes in the local area; Viroqua, Westby, and Readstown. Mike's phone number is 608-632-6499. 

After collecting glasses and other items, Mike Stephen delivers them to the Wisconsin Lions Foundation, located in Rosholt, Wisconsin.  The Foundation has a mission of dedication to improving the lives of Wisconsin Youth and Adults.  The Foundation refurbishes/sells these donated items to recycling companies in order to support their initiatives, including funding the Wisconsin Lions Camp for Youth; and providing funding for Diabetes Education, Hearing Programs, and Vision Screening.  Thanks to Michael Stephen, and our local businesses and community members for your service.

December 2023 Update  

Viroqua Lions Club Eye Glass Project Has  Collected 9,600 Pair in 24 Months

In 2022 the Viroqua Lions Club Eyeglass Project received support from 128 businesses in Viroqua, Westby, Coon Valley, Readstown and Soldiers Grove. The businesses in these communities were drop off points for people to donate their eyeglasses for this project. These glasses were delivered to Rosholt, Wisconsin where they are recycled and distributed to people in need of glasses. 

In total, as of December 14, 2023 the Viroqua Lions club has collected 9,600 pair of glasses, 2,619 eyeglass cases, 3,466 inkjet cartridges, 309 hearing aids, 814 cell phones.

Viroqua Lions club wants to thank the 128 businesses that had our containers in their establishments. We want to thank the following Lions Clubs for their support in helping us achieve this goal: DeSoto, Westby, Cashton, Coon Valley and Soldiers Grove. 

There is always a need for glasses here and world wide.
